design process

This design aims to create a modern but comfortable high end luxurious residence. Through the use of a neutral color palette as a basis, the apartment instantly becomes lighter as a whole, conjuring an illusion that the space is much larger than it really is. This neutral theme also adds a great amount of maturity and sophistication to the general atmosphere. At the same time the subdued uses of accent colors for each different rooms offer subtle and refreshing changes of mood according to the functionality of these individual areas; all the while coming together as one coherent space through the common foundation of neutral colors. This design sports furniture that are overall lighter in their footprints, many of them accented in materials of either gold or brass, further adding a feeling of spaciousness and generous proportions to the apartment.

Background Information & Research

This project also emphasizes taking inspiration from two renowned designers of influence, and in experimenting with their signature stylistic similarities and differences. Geoffrey Bradfield’s sense of balance between elegant luxuriousness and fun character endears to me greatly. In regards to design, I especially enjoy crafting beautifully characterized spaces. Bradfield’s sense of avantgarde with his mix of color and proportions of furniture is also something I take deep to heart. Where as on the other hand, Kelly Hoppens and her expert use of entourage throughout the house and amazing attention to the details of furniture and lightning is fascinating and inspiring. I took great inspiration from her preferences on neutral color palette for this project in hopes of experimenting with new styles of design. As a result. this residential project by and large conveys a rather different tone than my usual projects would. An extremely worthwhile endeavor indeed.
